SmartSuite’s team had spent over three years creating a collaborative task management platform. After completing the development cycle, but prior to launch, the company needed additional resources for QA to ensure the platform was bug-free, worked as intended, and met SmartSuite’s quality and business specifications.
SmartSuite has its own strict QA process but needed to expand its QA team with additional engineers.

Challenges
SmartSuite is a complex application with multiple features and integrations that challenged us in many ways.

To cover all goals and launch the platform to the market in time, we had to solve the following challenges:
Increase test scenario coverage by up to 90%
Adapt more than 40% of test scenarios for automation
Reduce the time required for regression testing by half
Collaboration process
To extend the SmartSuite QA team, cover their software testing needs, and provide for ongoing support, UTOR appointed:
  • five full-time senior-level QA engineers
  • five part-time senior-level QA engineers
They joined at the request of the client to reduce the burden on the rest of the SmartSuite team.
UTOR’s account manager, Alex Balaban, managed the work collaboration process with the client.

Our team worked side by side with the SmartSuite team and participated in daily meetings, including meetings for sprint planning, grooming, and reporting.
The QA team was divided into smaller groups with their own leads. Every group tested a different aspect of the app’s functionality, and the group lead assigned tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines so that each group member had a daily list of tasks to complete.
We were on a strict schedule and demanded a lot from the UTOR…The team worked in sprints and structured a workflow as they were committed to the schedule.

Within five days, the UTOR team hired and assigned ten QA engineers to the SmartSuite team to meet their needs.

UTOR QA engineers provided manual and automated testing services, including sanity and regression testing.
We created and improved automated test cases, refactored and optimized the framework, and enhanced the existing test cases (using Qase).
Our team created and improved test documentation, checklists, and test cases on top of optimizing the test cases developed by the internal SmartSuit team.
We also used Typescript + Cypress with a behavior-driven development approach for automated testing, and for BDD, the team implemented the Cucumber framework.
Results
95% test scenario coverage
Adapted and automated more than 50% of test scenarios
Reduced regression testing by almost four times due to adaptation of test scenarios
Tested 100 user stories and tasks
Created 4,000 test cases
UTOR provided us with high-level QA testing services at an affordable price point. They were eager to make our product better by using their expertise to verify test steps and report bugs as needed.
